Leaders
Cheryl Merlino: President (and Midwest Region Recruitment)

Cheryl is one of the founders of Professional Placement Partners, Inc. and serves as the President and a member of the Board of Directors. PPP was founded in 2002 to assist their former colleagues in the recruiting of top talent exclusively in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. Cheryl’s background includes a successful career in diagnostic and pharmaceuticals sales at Abbott Laboratories and Geigy Pharmaceuticals. Cheryl’s award-winning sales experience spans therapeutic classes which include cardiovascular, neurology, women’s health, orthopedic, anti-infectives, blood testing capital equipment, reagents, and rapid diagnostic test kits.

Cheryl is a former High School Business teacher and has held sales positions in the insurance and real estate industries during her career. She earned a BA degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. She enjoys traveling, investing, hiking, photography, vacationing on the beach, politics, and spending time with her son, daughter, husband and miniature poodle.

 
Mike Delea: General Manager (and Northeast Region Recruitment)

Mike is our General Manager and member of the Board of Directors. Mike is responsible for the pharmaceutical recruiting operations of Professional Placement Partners, Inc. He has been with PPP since 2006 and has helped to develop and grow our pharmaceutical client base with over 20 years of experience with GlaxoSmithKline, last serving as a Regional Vice President. In addition to sales leadership roles, Mike has also worked in sales administration for GSK. Mike has extensive experience in multiple therapeutic areas and has won many President’s Club awards as a District Sales Manager and Sales Representative at GSK and Burroughs Wellcome.

Mike earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Richmond. He lives in Glen Mills, PA with his wife and their four children. He enjoys spending time with his family, fishing, cooking and playing an occasional round of golf.
 
Carol Merrell: VP of Business Development and Corporate Accounts

Carol Merrell is our VP of Business Development & Corporate Accounts and a member of the Board of Directors, specializing in recruitment services that provide employers and job seekers with a quality experience. Her clients include pharmabiotech companies focused on expansion and start-up projects searching for top talent to staff field sales and commercial home office positons.

Carol’s background includes a successful 20+ years career in pharmaceutical sales and sales leadership positions.Including having served as Head of Sales for Noven Pharmaceuticals. In addition to sales leadership roles, Carol has in depth experience serving as Executive Director of Sales Operations and Planning. Prior to her pharmaceutical career Carol started her professional life as a Registered Nurse in hospital Trauma, ICU and OR units. Those experiences exposed her to diverse forms of leadership and multiple organizational models and talent acquisition strategies, which she now applies to her Executive Search practices.

Carol earned a BS degree in Organizational Management and Nursing from Nyack College. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, and volunteering for local charities. She lives in Boca Raton FL with her husband.
 
Warren Merlino: VP of Strategic Partnerships

Warren is the founder of Professional Placement Partners and has over 25 years in the pharmaceutical industry where he began his career with Ciba Pharmaceuticals and earned career promotions as Manager of Sales Training, District Sales Management, National Account Management, and Regional Sales Management. He is a multiple Circle of Excellence Award winner with Ciba/Novartis, as well as Pinnacle Winner as a Regional Sales Director with Bristol-Myers Squibb. Warren made a career move into the fulfillment and logistics arena as a Vice President with inVentiv Health which provided sample fulfillment and other services to the pharmaceutical industry. He eventually started up EPIC Fulfillment which served the pharmaceutical and eCommerce industries and was acquired by BexR Logistics in 2016.

Warren has served on the Board of Directors of Professional Placement Partners since 2002 at its inception. Warren is responsible for business development and strategic planning for PPP. Warren has a BS degree in Political Science from Eckerd College and an MBA degree from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University in Atlanta. He enjoys numismatics, history, politics, investing, biking, rock and roll music, and his dog, Ringo. He lives in Boulder County Colorado with his wife Cheryl. Together they have a daughter Kinsey and son Kyle.

Evie Callahan: Director of Recruitment--Great Lakes/Great Plains Region

Evie has been recruiting with PPP since 2006 and is responsible for recruiting top pharmaceutical and biotech sales and marketing candidates for a variety of clients in the pharma/biotech industries. Prior to joining PPP, Evie spent nine years in national sales with Oakwood Worldwide.

Evie earned her Bachelor’s degree in Health Administration from University of Maryland. Evie lives in Clarksville, MD with her husband and two daughters. She enjoys spending time with her family, playing tennis and traveling.
 
Phil Yanulites: Director of Recruitment--Southeast/MidAtlantic Region

Phil has been recruiting with PPP since 2014 and is responsible for top talent acquisition in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries.  He spent 31 years in sales, sales management, product management/marketing, and managed care with Burroughs Wellcome, GlaxoWellcome and GlaxoSmithKline before retiring from the Pharmaceutical industry. Phil won several Premier Performer Awards, President’s Club and Winner’s Circle awards as both a representative and District Manager. He was also selected as a Legend of the East (Best of the Best) as a District Manager. 

Phil earned his Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Conservation from the University of Connecticut. He has served as Grand Knight and Financial Secretary with the Knights of Columbus and serves on the Board for the Boys & Girls Club. He lives in Ellijay, Georgia with his wife Kathy. They have a daughter Kristin and son Ryan. He enjoys spending time with family and friends, fishing, wine, traveling, music, movies, gardening, and working with wood.
 
Michael Engelkamp: Director of Recruitment--Western United States Region

Michael has been recruiting with PPP since January 2016 and is responsible for client relations and business development for the West Coast region. His background not only includes staffing efforts in the Pharmaceutical and Biotech industries, but he also has 3 years of experience recruiting in Information Technology, Healthcare, and Finance. He lives in Denver, Colorado with his wife Chelsea and their dog Anabelle.

Michael earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He enjoys hiking, biking, reading, watching movies, listening to music, The Colorado Rapids, and HGTV.
